The Great Northern becomes Marugal’s inaugural UK hotel

The Great Northern Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio hotel,  has announced it is to be managed by Marugal Distinctive Hotel Management with immediate effect.

Situated next to King’s Cross Station, the Grade II listed building is the first UK property in Marugal’s portfolio of nine.

Ariane Jessamine-Herd, previously a manager at Firmdale Hotels and the Knightsbridge Hotel, will act as general manager for the establishment that was fully renovated into a hotel in 2013.

She will be joined by Jeremy Daudin, who will bring his experience as global sales manager at the Standard Hotels to the role of director of sales at The Great Northern.

Pablo Carrington, founder of Marugal, said: “King’s Cross is a fascinating part of the city; after the last few years of significant investment, what I love is that it is now an amazing mix of Victorian splendour, post-industrial chic buildings, stylish restaurants and great shopping.

“A real one-off destination in fact, which keys in perfectly to our own philosophy of creating one-off hotels.”

The hotel is set to see soft refurbishments in its public areas over the coming months, as well as the creation of a new lounge exclusive to hotel guests.

Moreover, the Plum and Spilt Milk restaurant will continue to focus on British cuisine, despite the new management group’s Spanish origins.

Tom Saunders of Intriva Capital, the owner of the hotel, said: “Since we met, I have visited other hotels in the Marugal portfolio and I have been consistently impressed by their ability to capture the essence of their cultural and geographical environments whilst delivering a great experience for the guest, under-pinned by operational excellence.

“We are delighted to entrust the future of Great Northern Hotel into the hands of Marugal and firmly believe that they will – alongside our dedicated team on-site – turn it into an incredibly successful operation and a true beacon in the area.”
