The Ro set to open in Lake District following ‘significant’ refurb

A new hotel, entitled The Ro, is set to open in Bowness-on-Windermere in the Lake District this July.

The new 87-room property, which overlooks Lake Windermere, has undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment, which has seen it transformed from its previous site as The Hydro Hotel.

The new hotel will be “informal and relaxed but deliver a warm lakes welcome”, and all guests will be catered for, including couples, families and those with dogs.

The 87 rooms feature eight different categories, ranging from “cosy to the stunning Ro Suite with lake views”. All rooms have been completely renovated and feature clean lines and artistic decor, as well as “home from home comforts”.

All day dining will be available in its dining area, Lacu at The Ro, and the cuisine is described as “local, honest, comfort food; sourced responsibly, seasonally and, where possible locally, but always British”. The Ro Bar will also serve locally sourced spirits.

APM Design Ltd and architect Mason Gillibrand reconfigured the internal space and main entrance while “respecting and showcasing” the original features of the building. The design takes inspiration from the lake and surrounding countryside, with the use of cool blues and turquoises alongside accents of oranges, natural stone and traditional grey slate.

In addition to the rooms and dining, the hotel’s conference and meeting rooms have also been renovated. The six new spaces can cater for events from 6 to 200.

The “significant refurbishment” has been undertaken by investment group, Lake Merritt Hospitality. The hotel will be managed by UK management company 7 Hospitality Management.
