The Fellows House Cambridge appoints GM following opening

Curio Collection by Hilton has announced that Julian Hudson will be the general manager of The Fellows House Cambridge.

His recent appointment coincides with the new opening of the hotel, which reportedly offers guests a “look into life as a Cambridge University Fellow through bespoke activity offerings and expertly crafted food and drink menus inspired by the scholarship and academics of the area”.

The Fellows House opened its doors on 1 July 2021, and the apartment-style hotel is the first Curio Collection by Hilton in the city of Cambridge.

The site features 131 bedrooms, including 123 studio and apartments all featuring fully equipped kitchens, and is situated a “stone’s throw” from the River Cam and Jesus Green.

Its signature restaurant, The Folio Bar and Kitchen, serves plant-based dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, and guests can enjoy The Sage of Cambridge as both a coffee and wine bar. The property also features a swimming pool, gym, sauna, steam room and bicycles to hire.

Guests can also “unwind” in The Fellows Garden and The Observatory or make use of the Hawking Suite boardroom, which doubles up as a private dining room.

Hudson is an experienced hotelier who brings with him almost 25 years of hospitality management experience in the UK.

He began his career as general manager of Slug and Lettuce, and has since held a managerial role at eight locations across the country, his most recent appointment including general manager at The Holiday Inn Express London Stratford which he held for nearly a decade.

During this time, Hudson oversaw the hotel through the 2012 Olympics, ensuring the thousands of visitors through Stratford were well taken care of.

According to Hilton, his passion comes from building and developing a “passionate, well-trained, and close-knit team”. With many of his staff members having been away from work during the pandemic, he is “particularly conscious of the ramifications the past year, and how important it is to lead by example, with a caring and eager to listen ear”.

Hudson said: “At the Fellows House Cambridge, experience comes above all else, for both our guests and our staff. We have taken inspiration from the rich history of the Cambridge University fellows and the meaningful contributions they have made to society.

“I am delighted that I have been entrusted with looking after this incredible apartment-style hotel, especially with all the time, care, and resources put into its development. I look forward to welcoming guests to experience our impressive F&B offering, our high-quality level of service, and our cultured, warm hospitality.”
