Mercure Oxford Eastgate opens amid £2.5m investment

Amaris Hospitality has announced the opening of its new hotel in Oxford following a £2.5m investment.

The hotel, called The Mercure Oxford Eastgate, is owned and managed by investment and management company Amaris Hospitality and has seen a “substantial transformation” expanding its capacity by an additional 17 rooms.

Following the refurbishment, the hotel now offers 81 bedrooms and also features a new Champagne Terrace Bar and Lounge. The purpose-built terrace offers afternoon tea open to both guests and the public.

Work commenced on site in early 2020, with Amaris adding the transformation was aimed at ensuring the hotel’s bedrooms, facilities and service “exceeds customer expectations”.

The refurbishment has been part of a multi-million-pound investment programme by Amaris to transform several of its landmark hotels including DoubleTree Angel Kings Cross, DoubleTree Edinburgh Airport and The Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel and Spa.

Bradlee Pillay, GM of Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel, said: “We are very excited to announce the extension of 17 new bedrooms and our newly built Taittinger Champagne Terrace Bar and Lounge located within our 17th Century coaching Inn.

“This has been an exciting project to be a part of, bringing in additional capacity to the Oxford market, at a time when we are seeing a growing need for hotel accommodation in the area.”

He added: “Following the impact of the pandemic, it is great to see demand returning to Oxford, and we are excited to offer a blend of modern interiors and contemporary charm to our residents, as well as to be able to cater to larger groups visiting the city or hosting events.”
